For reviewers
Peerclave is open to clinicians and researchers who review manuscripts for medical journals. You sign in with your ORCID iD, receive invitations in your subspecialty at a stated fee, and are paid when you submit a complete review.
Signing in
Reviewer access is by ORCID sign-in. No separate application is required. When you sign in, your public ORCID record is used to populate your profile: affiliations, qualifications, publications, and existing peer review activity.
You can correct or add to what is imported, for example to record a subspecialty interest or a clinical appointment that is not in your ORCID record. Changes you make on Peerclave are not written back to ORCID.
Invitations
Each invitation states the journal, the subspecialty, the fee, the deadline, and the manuscript's abstract or full text depending on the journal's visibility policy. You accept or decline. The fee is fixed by the journal before the invitation is sent; there is no negotiation and no bidding between reviewers.
Declining an invitation has no effect on future invitations. You are asked to decline where you have a conflict of interest, or where you cannot meet the deadline.
Payment
Payment is tied to submitting a complete review by the deadline. It does not depend on whether the journal agrees with your conclusions, whether it accepts or rejects the manuscript, or whether the authors dispute your assessment.
A review is complete when every section of the structured format has been addressed. The format is shown to you at acceptance, and the submission form will not close with sections left blank. If a journal contends that a submitted review is incomplete, the question is decided by Peerclave against the format, not by the journal.
One round of revision review is included in the fee you accepted. If the authors submit a revised manuscript, you will be asked to assess it against your original review within a deadline set by the journal. Subsequent rounds are issued as new invitations with their own fee.
